The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding several Chainsaw Training Courses January 18-21st.
These classes will be taught by USFS certified sawyers and will focus on maintenance, safe operation and building on students existing skills.
There will be one day Basic Safety Courses on Thursday, Jan 18 and Sunday, Jan. 21. from 8:30-5ish
These classes are open to the public for a fee. Active Park volunteers may attend the one day safety classes at no charge. The charge is $45 for the public.The class will be roughly half classroom and half field work.
There will be a two day safety and felling class Friday and Saturday, 19-20. Class will start at 8:30 and end roughly 5 pm each day
The felling class will be a comprehensive classroom section for about 6 hours and the remaining time will be in the field. Students in this class will be rated on their skills for limbing, bucking and felling, and will be awarded a certification based on their skill level.
The two day felling class has limited seating remaining and is $125. Active Park system volunteers may attend at a reduced rate of $65.
Equipment will be available for use by students, but it is strongly encouraged to bring your own equipment for inspection and familiarity. Sawyers will need all of the equipment listed for safe regular operation.
Safety items required for use:
Leather gloves, (at least leather palms)
Leather boots are recommended, 8″ is ideal
First Aid Kit
Saw with functioning chain brake and chain catcher
Files and chain tools
Single bit axe
